The IOP is grounded in a foundation of excellence in treating both adolescents and adults. Our intensive outpatient program is an alternative level of care to a higher level such as residential that includes holistic treatment that is individualized to your specific needs and schedule. Growth Extended’s intensive outpatient program in located near Los Angeles, which makes it a very accessible option to residents in the Los Angeles area.
Intensive Outpatient Program Schedule
The IOP takes place three times per week for three hours per session. The hours can be during the day or during the evening hours. A structured environment that is comfortable, inviting and therapeutic serves as the vehicle to achieve healing and restoration at this level of care. The IOP may be utilized as a “step down” from a higher level of care such as residential (RTC) or partial hospitalization/day program (PHP) or IOP can be entered directly without having completed our higher levels of care.
Services IOP offers
This level of outpatient services is necessary because there are some mental health issues, eating disorders and addictions that are not suitable to treat on a weekly outpatient basis. In these instances we offer IOP to address the issues in a therapeutic treatment setting that recognizes that work, school, family etc. need to be maintained. By utilizing IOP there is a lack of restrictions that will support our client’s lifestyle while simultaneously delivering the greater direction and assistance that is currently needed.
IOP offers the following:
- Individual therapy
- Conjoint family therapy
- Group therapy
- Step work
- Academic support
- Family education
- Individualized treatment plan
- Behavioral contract
- Dialectical behavioral therapy
- Anger management
- Stress inoculation
- Life skills
- Cognitive behavioral therapy
- Random drug testing
- Relapse prevention
- Discharge planning
If medications are currently prescribed, participants are typically encouraged to continue seeing their psychiatrist for medication management and their medical doctor to maintain any current physical regimes being treated. We will request that releases be signed so that we secure collaboration and continuity of care. Being medically stable is a requirement for participation in IOP.
Although there is a great deal of progress that can be gained from our residential and partial day treatment programs, IOP is a great opportunity to further facilitate the growth that has begun in these higher levels of care. Moreover, IOP can serve as a refresher for persons that obtained treatment in the past but feel that they are starting to get off their path and need some assistance that will not impede their current commitments.
IOP is a relatively short term treatment. The exact duration varies depending upon each individual’s need. Typically IOP lasts for about eight weeks. This number can certainly be increased based upon need. Upon intake a discharge coordinator is assigned to each client who will start preparing the discharge plan within 72 hours of admit. The discharge plan is a detailed report that includes discharge appointments, recommendations for after care, telephone hotline numbers, potentially stressful situations to avoid, coping skills that have worked in treatment and discharge recommendations.
The funding source for IOP is typically the insurance company. Growth Extended employs an entire department solely devoted to working with the insurance company, the Utilization Review Department (UR). The UR specialist will communicate with the insurance on a weekly basis to maintain current authorization for treatment. The insurance company provides ongoing authorization based upon the client meeting their medical necessity criteria. At Growth Extended it is our aim to partner with our clients to give hope on this recovery journey.
Our IOP proudly holds the gold seal of accreditation from the Joint Commission, providing a standard of excellence in the healthcare field that is unmatched by any other form of endorsement. Our caring staff in IOP are invested in seeing our clients progress.
